Rod Brook, MNRF Wildlife Research Specialist will share stories about MNRF's 25 years of research on Akimiski Island, the largest island in James Bay. Technically in Nunavut, it has a strong connection to Ontario through the migration and staging of birds and through the Cree people that live on the west coast of James Bay. Akimiski is the home of the most southerly lesser snow goose colony in the world and has the highest breeding density of southern James Bay population Canada geese. Besides research on geese and polar bears, the station has supported grad students that worked on numerous breeding shorebird species and the fragile coastal habitats.
