What's New Exhibit:

Featuring newly acquired items from 2013 - 2014

January 7, 2015 – March 22, 2015

This exhibition allows visitors a chance to view some of the artifacts that the Museum acquired in the 2013 - 2014 years. Often, the Museum accessions new artifacts and then will not have the opportunity to display them until much later due to pre-determined exhibit schedules and a myriad of other factors. Before our artifacts are accessioned, catalogued, and properly placed within the confines of our Collections Storage Room, we are providing Museum visitors with a first glance at the new artifacts that have found their final home here, at the Museum on Tower Hill.

The "What's New!" exhibit will be an annual exhibit which will feature newly acquired artifacts from the previous year and will be on display every January for the duration of two months.

Exhibit Highlights:

  • C.I.L. Steam Whistle
The steam whistle from the roof of the Steam Plant at Canadian Industries Limited (C.I.L) located in Nobel. The steam whistle was blown to signal the beginning and ending of shifts, lunch hour, and as an alarm. It became an iconic symbol of the plant and the community and was considered the voice of Nobel
  • Pumphouse Photo Series
Various photos which depict the demolition of the chimney at the Pumphouse located at 86 Waubeek Street. Other photos include the cranes moving piping, the original pump, and the converted pumping station
  • C.P.R Trestle Bridge Commemorative Plate
A elegant blue and white plate which depicts the Canadian Pacific Railway Trestle Bridge in Parry Sound along with homes and buildings, and a steam engine that is traveling across the trestle. The plate commemorated the 100th anniversary of the construction of the trestle in 2007. The plate was created by the W. Adam's Souvenir Series
