West Parry Sound District Museum Bookkeeper

The West Parry Sound District Museum (WPSDM), also known as the Museum on Tower Hill seeks a part-time bookkeeper to:

  • Work closely with Curator/Manager and Treasureer to create and analyze financial reports and ensure legal requirements compliance.
  • Oversee all the daily accounting functions of the WPSDM, (including receivables and collections, payables, maintaining bank accounts, etc.)
  • Recording transactions such as income and outgoings, and posting them to various accounts,
  • Processing payments,
  • Government remittance and filing, including quarterly, or semi-annual GST/HST filing,
  • Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger, conducting daily banking activities/reconciling reports to third-party records such as bank statements,
  • Preparation of monthly statements,
  • Prepare/co-ordinate the annual audit preparation process,
  • Full-cycle bookkeeping/bringing the books to the trial balance/financial statement stage.

The WPSDM Finance Committee on behalf of the WPSDM Board will recommend the services of a bookkeeper to provide financial record-keeping, under the direction of the WPSDM Curator/Manager.

The WPSDM is a not for profit organization incorporated in Ontario without share capital in 1982. The WPSDM is a registered charity and as such is exmpt from tax under the Candian Income Tax Act. The WPSDM is in the Town of Parry Sound and has a staff of two full-time employees. The WPSDM has a Board of Directors of up to 15 members (currently 10) who are elected annually. WPSDM's financial year-end is December 31st.

WPSDM's primary revenues are from municipal contributions, federal and provincial project grants, and self-generated revenue such as admission and gift shop sales, programming fees and donations.

Expenses are mostly salaries and facility related expenditures.

As a matter of sound practices and to verify the financial management of the organization, WPSDM has undertaken an annual financial audit, beginnging with the fiscal year ended December 31, 1984.


WPSDM anticipates engaging in this agreement for weekly services, totalling approximately 8 to 10 hours a month but is subject to change based on work requirements.
