Help us run the new model train of the Ottawa, Arnprior & Parry Sound Railway in the E. Roy Smith Gallery by joining our volunteer team and becoming a train conductor!
The Museum is looking for 10 - 15 dedicated individuals to help us run the model train. It is our hope to develop a weekly schedule where our volunteers can sign-up for 1.5 hour timeslots to come in and run the train and interact with visitors to the gallery. You will be required to attend training sessions to learn about how the model train functions, as well as how to be a gallery docent. You will be given all the material and support needed to be comfortable with this volunteer position prior to volunteering.

Commitment: Requires an initial commitment of 20 hours in 3 months - this includes 2 hours of training and 3 hours of shadowing Museum staff/senior train volunteers.
Requirements:
- This position requires working with the public, so we are looking for individuals who are personable and have good communication skills
- Love trains!
- Willing to learn about our area's history
- Work with technology - you will have a training session to get you comfortable with the train
- Able to volunteer approx. 4 - 8 hours a month
- Willing to learn about the Museum and answer questions/direct them to appropriate staff
- Prior knowledge of model trains is an asset
Duties:
- Greet visitors when in gallery
- Turn on train and handle any minor issues, such as derailments
- Interact with visitors
- Answer visitor questions or direct them to appropriate staff
